COVID-19 Guidelines
Juneteenth 2021 will observe all COVID-19 protocols, including but not limited to mask wearing and social distancing at all its events as directed by the Riley County Health Department.
Vendors
Due to the uncertainty of COVID, the Manhattan Juneteenth Planning Committee agreed this year’s celebration will be much simpler than in year’s past. Juneteenth 2021 will not include vendors and/or community organizations. We are sensitive to the fact that the pandemic is a concern to many so we didn’t think it was quite time to organize a full-scale event like we had in the past. Though there is no vendor fair, there are still plenty activities for you to enjoy. Plan to join us.
Unity Walk
The Juneteenth Unity walk is a way for community members to come together and walk under one banner to show their support for unity. During this event the 100 walkers in the event receive a free commemorate tee-shirt.
Health
The “United in History and Hope” 5k Fun Run will take place around the historic Yuma Street area. Register for the run on this website.

Music
The Juneteenth Music Festival as is one of our most anticipated events. Every year we curate various genres locally and world-wide. Artists include Kirk Whalum, Jahvelle Rhones, Donald Hays, Betty O, Wayne Goins and more. And This year is going to be no different.

On America’s birthday, we are honored to share the Manhattan KS Juneteenth Celebration video we had the opportunity to create. Juneteenth often noted as America’s other Independence Day marks what is arguably the most significant event in American history after independence itself—the eradication of American slavery. Juneteenth commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America. We loved being a part of this wonderful tradition of diversity in our own community of Manhattan, Kansas.
